Description:

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The LCV Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of multi-unit trailer

requires advanced technical driving skills, a mastery of weight distribution, and a commitment to

rigorous safety protocols beyond standard Class A requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Multi-Unit Operation: Expertly navigate LCV configurations across approved freight

corridors, maintaining lane integrity and managing increased off-tracking.

• Coupling/Uncoupling: Perform complex assembly of combinations, including the

positioning of converter dollies and the connection of air and electrical lines across

multiple units.

• Advanced Inspections: Conduct exhaustive pre- and post-trip inspections, specifically

monitoring pintle hooks, air pressure stability across all units, and tire wear on dollies.

• Compliance & Permitting: Maintain strict adherence to FMCSA regulations and statespecific LCV length and weight permits.

• Stability Management: Monitor and adjust driving behavior to mitigate the "crack-thewhip" effect and ensure stability during braking and cornering.

Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Licensure: Valid Class A CDL with a mandatory Doubles/Triples “T” Endorsement.

• Certification: Must possess (or be eligible to obtain) an LCV Driver Training

Certificate as required by 49 CFR §380.401.

• Experience: Minimum 3 years of verifiable Class A driving experience; prior LCV or

multi-unit experience is highly preferred.

• Safety Record: A clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) with no major violations or

preventable accidents within the last 3–5 years.

• Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of the "Bridge Formula" and axle weight

distribution for multi-trailer setups

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

• Ability to manually maneuver converter dollies (often 300+ lbs).

• Ability to work in all weather conditions to perform coupling/uncoupling and chain-ups

as required.

• Capacity to perform frequent climbing and bending during the assembly of units.

PREFERRED EDUCATION:

• High School diploma or equivalent degree required
