Refrigerant Piping Apprentice – Start Your Career in Commercial HVAC
Position SummaryThe Refrigerant Apprentice is an entry-level, hands-on role designed for individuals looking to build a career in the installation of commercial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. This position works closely with experienced HVAC Mechanics to assist with the installation and setup of commercial HVAC equipment and systems.
The primary focus of this role is to develop HVAC fundamentals, build strong field work habits, and support mechanics in delivering high-quality installations to customers. Apprentices will gain experience working on equipment such as rooftop units (RTUs), air handlers, boilers, chillers, and ventilation systems while developing the technical skills necessary to advance into a Commercial HVAC Mechanic/Installer role.
Core Responsibilities- Assist HVAC Mechanics/Installers with installation of commercial HVAC equipment and systems
- Support the installation and setup of rooftop units, air handlers, boilers, chillers, and ventilation systems
- Help stage, organize, and prepare tools, materials, and equipment needed for HVAC installations
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe job sites throughout projects
- Follow all company safety policies and construction site procedures
- Safely operate hand and power tools used for HVAC installations
- Observe and learn proper installation methods and construction practices from experienced HVAC Mechanics
- Communicate installation progress and job site needs to supervising mechanics/installers
- Represent the company professionally while interacting with customers and other trades on job sites
- Participate in hands-on technical training while working alongside experienced HVAC Mechanics
- Build knowledge of commercial HVAC systems and mechanical equipment
- Work toward industry certifications such as EPA Refrigerant Certification (if not already obtained)
- Develop installation support, and installation skills
- Demonstrate a strong willingness to learn commercial HVAC systems and proper installation processes under experienced HVAC Mechanics/Installers
- Maintain a safety-first mindset on all job sites
- Show reliability, punctuality, and strong work ethic
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with mechanics, supervisors, and customers
- Follow instructions carefully and ask questions to improve understanding
- Take pride in craftsmanship, cleanliness, and attention to detail
- Basic mechanical aptitude and interest in HVAC installation or mechanical systems
- Ability to safely use hand tools and basic installation equipment (training provided)
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn through hands-on experience
- Reliable, punctual, and capable of working in a team environment
- Ability to follow instructions and maintain attention to detail
- Basic computer or mobile device familiarity for installation documentation is helpful
- Full-time position.
- Typical schedule consists of four (4) 10-hour days per week (40 hours total).
- Occasional overtime may be required, including evening or weekend hours, to meet customer needs.
- Schedules may vary based on business demand and seasonal workload.
