About This Position

Description:

Start Your Clinical Career Where It Actually Makes a Difference

Volunteers of America Eastern Washington & Northern Idaho is growing—and we’re looking for clinicians early in their careers who want more than a traditional office-based role

This position is ideal for individuals who have recently completed their Master’s program and are working toward full licensure (CSW or MHC), and who want meaningful, hands-on experience working with diverse and complex populations.

At VOA, you won’t spend your days sitting in an office. You’ll be out in the community—supporting individuals in shelters, housing programs, medical respite, and other real-world settings where care is needed most.

The Kind of Work That Stays With You

This role is a strong fit for someone who:

  • Can stay grounded and calm in unpredictable or high-pressure situations
  • Understands that some days will be challenging—and still chooses to show up
  • Wants to build real clinical skills, not just check boxes
  • Is motivated by impact, not just routine

What You’ll Be Doing (In the Real World)

  • Provide individual, group, and family therapy using evidence-based practices
  • Complete intakes, biopsychosocial assessments, and develop treatment plans
  • Support participants in building coping skills, stability, and independence
  • Provide crisis intervention and risk assessment when needed
  • Facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic groups
  • Coordinate care with internal teams and community partners
  • Complete timely and accurate clinical documentation
  • Travel locally to provide services in community-based settings

Clinical Supervision That Moves You Forward

We know supervision matters—and we’ve built this role to support your path to full licensure.

  • Internal clinical supervision from experienced leaders within VOA
  • Access to Motivo, a national platform that connects you with licensed supervisors for flexible, high-quality supervision and additional clinical perspectives

This combination gives you both on-the-ground support and broader clinical exposure, helping you build confidence and meet licensure requirements.

Requirements:

What You Bring

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field
  • Active or eligible for Washington State associate licensure (LCSWA or LMHCA)
  • Ability to obtain Agency Affiliated Counselor (AAC) credential within 30 days of hire
  • Experience or strong interest in working with individuals impacted by homelessness, mental health, and substance use
  • Strong clinical judgment and willingness to continue learning and growing
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

What You’ll Gain From This Role

This is more than an entry-level position—it’s a launch point for your clinical career.

  • Exposure to a wide range of clinical situations and populations
  • Experience in integrated, community-based behavioral health care
  • Opportunities to build confidence in assessment, intervention, and crisis response
  • A deeper understanding of systems, resources, and real-world care delivery

Work Environment

This role operates in shelters, housing programs, medical respite, and community-based settings. You will regularly work with individuals experiencing behavioral health crises, active substance use, and complex challenges. No two days look the same—and that’s part of the work.

Total Rewards That Support You

  • 8 paid holidays plus up to 5 floating holidays
  • 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance (approx. $12,000–$15,000 annual value)
  • Employer-paid life insurance and long-term disability (approx. $1,500–$2,500 annual value)
  • Generous PTO, including sick leave and vacation
  • 403(b) retirement plan
  • PSLF-eligible employer
  • Ongoing training and professional development
  • Free electric vehicle charging at our main location

Why VOA

At VOA, we meet people where they are. That means showing up in spaces that aren’t always easy—but where the work matters most.

If you’re looking to build your clinical skills, gain meaningful experience, and be part of a team that values growth, resilience, and impact, this is a place where you can do that.
