Position Summary
Good Life Companies is seeking a strategic and experienced Director of Accounting to lead our financial operations and enhance our financial foundation and infrastructure. This key leadership role reports directly to the CFO and will oversee all aspects of accounting and controllership while driving innovation and building capabilities that deliver repeatable, sustainable results. The successful candidate will manage a team of accounting professionals and serve as a strategic partner in advancing our value proposition in the marketplace.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Operations Leadership (50%)
• Lead month-end close processes and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting.
• Oversee general ledger management and maintain chart of accounts across multiple entities.
• Prepare comprehensive financial statements and management reports.
• Execute balance sheet reconciliations and maintain strong internal controls.
• Manage cash flow operations and capital management initiatives.
• Oversee Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Commission processing.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
Strategic Leadership (25%)
• Enhance financial systems, processes, and infrastructure to support company growth.
• Implement continuous process improvement initiatives to eliminate non-priority work.
• Partner with executive team on strategic planning and financial analysis.
• Drive innovation in financial processes and reporting capabilities.
• Support business development through financial insights and analysis.
Team Leadership & Development (25%)
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals.
• Recruit and retain top accounting talent.
• Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.
• Provide coaching and development opportunities to drive team performance.
• Set high performance standards and inspire team members by example.
What Initial Success Looks Like (6-12 months)
• Complete an assessment of the current state of Good Life’s accounting operations, systems, and processes to build a foundation for long-term scalability.
• Establish streamlined month-end close processes with improved accuracy and reduced cycle time.
• Develop and implement key financial reporting dashboards and KPIs for executive leadership.
• Through partnership with the CFO, identify and execute process improvement initiatives that eliminate inefficiencies and strengthen internal controls.
• Build strong working relationships across the organization, becoming a trusted financial partner to department leaders.
• Assess and develop the accounting team, establishing clear performance expectations and professional development plans.
• Become a valued, collaborative member of the Good Life finance leadership team.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• CPA certification preferred (inactive acceptable).
• 5-8 years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
• Proven experience in the financial services industry.
• Previous supervisory or management experience required.
• Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks, multi-entity accounting, consolidations, and financial reporting systems.
• Experience with month-end close, financial statement preparation, cash management, and capital allocation.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial services regulations, and regulatory compliance.
• Proficiency in Excel and financial analysis tools.
• Demonstrated ability to influence and partner with executive leadership with strong business acumen.
• Proven change management and process improvement capabilities with ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Collaborative, entrepreneurial mindset with passion for continuous learning and evolution.
Working Conditions
This role will start as a remote position, with an expectation of eventually moving to fully in-office.
• Primarily office-based with occasional travel (up to 10%).
• Requires typical physical demands of an office environment.
