Job Summary
The Critical Care APP is an independent health care provider who coordinates inpatient care through collaboration with the Physician for Critical Care patients The PA or APN provides care in accordance with the objectives policies and procedures of the practice and the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners Physician Assistant Nurse Practitioner Advisory Committee
The Lead APP for Critical Care provides advanced clinical care to critically ill patients while serving as a clinical and operation leader for the critical care APP team
This role provides expert bedside practice with leadership responsibilities including mentorship quality improvement scheduling support and collaboration with multidisciplinary stakeholders to ensure high quality safe and efficient patient care
Essential Functions
Provides comprehensive critical care services to patients in the ICU and IMCU including assessment diagnosis and management of complex high acuity conditions
Demonstrates strong organizational skills communicates effectively and demonstrates effective time management
Demonstrates effectiveness in coordinating aspects of patient care within a critical care environment
Regularly communicates with nursing leadership and staff concerning patient care issues
Demonstrates the ability to compassionately interact with patients across different areas of care
Participate in multidisciplinary rounds care planning and family discussions
Performs appropriate interpretation of laboratory and diagnostic testing
Perform and or assist with invasive and noninvasive procedures in accordance with hospital privileges and scope of practice
Ensures compliance with evidence-based protocols clinical pathways and patient safety standards
Participates in quality improvement initiatives peer review and patient safety activities
Promotes adherence to regulatory requirements and hospital policies
Encourages professional growth and certification maintenance within the APP team
Provides mentorship coaching and performance feedback to APPs
Serves as a clinical resource and escalation support for APP team members during shift
Support onboarding orientation and training of new hires and students
Assists with staffing scheduling coordination and coverage needs as delegated by leadership
Fosters a collaborative respectful and high functioning team culture
Serves as a liaison between APP staff physicians nursing leadership and administration
Job Requirements APN or PA
Prior leadership preferred
Experience in quality improvement or clinical education
Acute care certification
1 to 2 years acute care hospital experience preferred
Current APN or PA certification
Current NJ state license CDS and DEA
Current BLS and ACLS required
