Role Overview

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will provide technical leadership and engineering oversight for mechanical systems supporting a hyperscale data center construction project. This role works closely with the owner’s team, general contractor, mechanical subcontractors, and commissioning teams to ensure mechanical systems are installed, tested, and turned over in accordance with design intent, project specifications, and reliability requirements.

The ideal candidate brings strong experience with large-scale HVAC, chilled water, and hydronic systems within mission-critical or high-tech construction environments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for mechanical infrastructure supporting data center operations.
  • Review mechanical system designs, specifications, and construction documents to ensure alignment with project requirements.
  • Evaluate and review mechanical equipment submittals, shop drawings, and RFIs.
  • Support design clarifications and resolve technical issues that arise during construction.
  • Collaborate closely with the General Contractor, mechanical subcontractors, and field teams to ensure proper installation of mechanical systems.
  • Monitor installation progress and verify systems are being installed in accordance with approved drawings and specifications.
  • Support field teams in troubleshooting mechanical system issues during construction.
  • Ensure mechanical infrastructure meets performance, redundancy, and reliability standards typical of mission-critical facilities.
  • Verify system capacity, operational performance, and redundancy requirements are achieved.
  • Partner with the commissioning team to support system startup, functional testing, and system validation.
  • Review commissioning procedures, test results, and turnover documentation.
  • Assist in resolving system deficiencies identified during commissioning activities.
  • Ensure mechanical systems comply with project specifications, engineering standards, and applicable codes.
  • Support QA/QC teams with inspections, documentation review, and issue resolution.
  • Promote best practices in safety, quality, and system reliability.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field experience
  • 5+ years of experience supporting large mechanical systems on complex construction projects.
  • Experience supporting data centers, mission-critical facilities, semiconductor fabs, or large industrial facilities preferred.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, chilled water plants, and hydronic piping systems.
  • Experience reviewing mechanical drawings, submittals, and technical specifications.
  • Familiarity with commissioning processes and system startup activities.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with contractors, engineers, and client teams.
