Director of Morning Glory Ministries

Position Overview

The Director of Morning Glory Ministries provides leadership and oversight for all ministry operations serving individuals experiencing homelessness. This position ensures effective daily Emergency Assistance services, strong volunteer and staff supervision, responsible financial management, and active fundraising participation.

Emergency Assistance Operations

  • Organize and oversee all aspects of daily Emergency Assistance (EA) operations.
  • Interview clients to assess needs and determine appropriate assistance.
  • Recruit, schedule, train, and supervise volunteers.
  • Prepare the office for daily operations, including organizing paperwork and materials for volunteers.
  • Ensure the waiting room and service areas are clean, welcoming, and prepared for clients.
  • Oversee all record-keeping and reporting requirements for the Mid-America Assistance Coalition system.
  • Maintain organized and confidential donor and client records.

Staff, Security, & Volunteer Supervision

  • Supervise paid staff, including preparing job descriptions, submitting time sheets, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Direct security and manage vendor contracts.
  • Provide direct supervision of daily volunteers.
  • Manage the human resources needs of our parish staff, including recruiting, onboarding, payroll, benefits, medical leaves, and policy implementation.
  • Assist the pastor with recruitment, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and terminations.

Financial Management & Accountability

  • Manage the Emergency Assistance budget.
  • Coordinate payments to the banking service and write checks from the Morning Glory Ministries account.
  • Input transactions into Positive Pay.
  • Manage and balance credit card transactions.
  • Acknowledge donors through thank-you letters, emails, etc.
  • Maintain organized and accurate financial records.

Communications & Outreach

  • Direct and manage all aspects of Morning Glory Ministries’ social media and marketing presence.
  • Update the Morning Glory Ministries website monthly.
  • Produce and distribute a monthly newsletter.
  • Follow up with vital records offices throughout the United States.
  • Maintain relationships with agencies in the Kansas City area, including Hope Faith, City U, Shelter KC, Rediscover, Recovery House, the Public Library, etc.
  • Coordinate parish and diocesan communications related to the ministry.
  • Attend weekly cathedral staff meetings.
  • Present Morning Glory Ministries to various groups to increase awareness and engagement.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to convey information clearly and professionally.
  • Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and discretion in handling sensitive matters.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks from start to finish.
  • Collaborative team player with the ability to build respectful and constructive working relationships.
  • Skilled in analyzing workflows and implementing process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Prefer 5 years’ leadership experience in operations, nonprofit management or parish administration.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial oversight and staff supervision.
  • Prior experience working in parish operations or ministry strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Catholic Church structure and the spiritual mission of parish ministry is a plus.
  • Practicing Catholic in good standing is preferred, but not required.
