GENERAL SUMMARY:
The System Vice President/Chief Nursing Executive (CNE) is a member of the Health System Executive Team and is responsible for nursing practice across the Bryan Health enterprise, ensuring alignment of core professional nursing practice and policy to provide a consistent level of service, practice and clinical excellence among entities, while balancing this with individual organizational culture. This includes alignment of the corporate mission, vision, values and philosophy among all Bryan entities. This role encompasses accountability for strategic and operational nursing operations. The System CNE will focus on developing and communicating the broad nursing strategy for today while leading Bryan Health’s patient care enterprise through the transformation needed to respond to the ever-changing healthcare landscape that continues to evolve into a more complex and integrated operation.
The System CNE is responsible for leading the patient care/ nursing enterprise across the continuum with a foundation grounded in patient and family-centered care and interprofessional delivery models, through a structure that drives performance improvement; continually improving clinical outcomes, operational efficiencies and patient and healthcare provider experience. Focus will be on the identification and implementation of evidence-based care, and other best practices to ensure achievement of the strategic and operational goals of the organization. Responsible for effectively representing patient care/ nursing perspectives to governing bodies, ensuring the allocation of necessary resources for achieving high quality, safe, and patient-centered care.
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

- *Serves in the role of system nurse executive in accordance with Joint Commission NR-1.
- *Advocates for nursing issues in concert with strategies identified within the nursing strategic plan.
- *Role models transparency, collaboration and ethical leadership in every aspect of one’s work.
- *Leads the continued development, alignment and communication of nursing philosophy, vision, strategy and patient care model through collaboration with key stakeholders.
- Leads the coordinated delivery of nursing services to ensure consistency, efficiency, excellent patient experience and continuity across the care continuum.
- *Establishes mechanisms for integrating nursing standards in those areas where nursing care is provided.
- *Works collaboratively with clinical operations, population health, physician practice, academic partners, information technology and other system functions to ensure an integrated approach to high quality clinical services.
- *Establishes appropriate mechanisms to monitor necessary nursing and patient care service personnel competencies and maintains final approval of such.
- *Collaborates with the Bryan Health System Chief Medical Officer, entity Chief Nursing Officers (CNO), other entity nursing leaders and provider leaders to implement an effective ongoing program to measure, assess and improve the quality of patient care through integration of entity organizational priorities.
- Stays informed of current nursing issues and best practice trends. Able to translate these learnings to constituents.
- *Establishes procedures to define, monitor and adjust nurse staffing to ensure appropriate provision of patient care and effective workflow. Works with entity CNOs and other entity nursing leaders to effectively control salary and non-personnel costs to achieve appropriate service levels at optimum costs. Explores evolving models of care that will meet fiscal and quality objectives.
- Participates in the annual appraisal of budget and resource requests, productivity tools and utilization and evaluates its impact on quality patient care and ability to meet organizational strategic goals.
- Collaborates to attract, recruit, develop and retain nursing workforce.
- Drives nursing leadership development and capacity across the enterprise, promoting succession planning, education, and professional development to support system level leadership capacity.
- Coaches and mentors CNOs and non-hospital entity nursing leaders.
- Responsible for personal professional growth and development.
- *Participates in the interview and hiring process for all entity CNOs. Strives to expand workplace diversity.
- *Participates in the training, supervision, counseling and evaluations for entity CNOs.
- Is an effective and collaborative change agent.
- *Chairs committees and councils within the Health System as appropriate.
- Promotes and role models collaborative physician/leadership relationships.
- Serves on committees and boards and participates in entity-based board and system board meetings as required.
- Participates in professional community organizations and projects to promote nursing and Bryan Health.
- *Participates with governing body, management, medical staff and CNOs in the organization’s decision-making structures and processes to include the annual strategic planning process.
- Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

- Knowledge of quality improvement, budgetary and financial methods and practices.
- Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.

- Ability to develop written policies and procedures, and present pertinent information to various audiences, including the Board of Trustees, medical staff, management personnel, and hospital employees.
- Ability to make operational and management decisions in response to changing conditions and in emergencies.
- Ability to make professional and administrative decisions within the framework of Bryan Health's mission, facility policies and procedures, legal and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

- Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act. Master’s degree in nursing or related field required. MBA or Doctorate preferred. A minimum of ten (10) years of progressive management experience within an acute care hospital required. Prior experience in senior level management across the continuum of patient care is required. Prior experience with Magnet or Baldridge preferred.
OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:
Nursing leadership specialty certification required.
