Project Engineer, I (Land Development) at Legacy Engineering, P.C – Richmond, Virginia

Legacy Engineering, P.C., is a, woman-owned civil engineering firm specializing in land development design, geotechnical services, construction materials testing and inspections land surveying, planning consulting and environmental services. The Project Engineer I is an entry-level engineering position focused on developing core land development design skills. This role supports the planning and preparation of construction plans under the supervision of senior engineers and project managers.

The position focuses on learning Civil 3D workflows, engineering standards, and the fundamentals of land development design.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation of site development plans including utilities, grading exhibits, and erosion & sediment control plans.
• Develop Civil 3D drawings and models under supervision.
• Perform basic engineering calculations and quantity takeoffs.
• Assist in preparing permit applications and technical reports.
• Research zoning requirements, design standards, and permitting requirements.
• Coordinate internally with survey, planning, and environmental teams.
• Perform quality control reviews of assigned work prior to submission.
• Participate in internal training and professional development programs.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

• B.S. in Civil Engineering or similar field of study from an accredited university is preferred but not required
• 0–3 years of experience in land development design.
• EIT certification preferred or actively being pursued.
• Basic understanding of civil engineering design principles.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
