Qualifications

Here's What You Need:

Education

• High School Diploma or Equivalent Required.

Experience

• 6 Months Security or Police Dispatcher Preferred.

• Basic Telecommunications Certification 12 Months Required.

Licenses and Certifications

• TLETS - Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunication Systems Certification 12 Months Required.

Skills

• Must pass extensive background investigation.

• Must pass pre-employment psychological exam.

• Must pass pre-employment physical and drug screen

• Must accurately type 40 words per minute.

• Must be able to demonstrate multi-tasking abilities.

• Must be able to demonstrate working knowledge of personal computers.

• Must be able to demonstrate ability to think clearly and act effectively in emergency situations.

• Must be able to effectively use telephone headset and telephone receiver.

• Must have an ability to maintain professional and courteous communications.

• Must have effective written and oral communication skills.

• Must be able to make sound judgements based on training received

• Must remain calm and demonstrate ability to effectively respond in stressful and/or high-pressure emergency situations.

• Must interact with public and fellow employees in a tactful and diplomatic manner.

• Must be able to work flexible and rotating shifts to include nights and weekends and holidays.

• Must be able to perform other duties as directed by supervisor.

What You Will Do:

• Receive incoming telephone or alarm system calls regarding emergency and non-emergency police and security services, information, and after-hours calls for departments.

• Question callers to determine their locations, and the nature of their problems to determine type of response needed.

• Determine response requirements and relative priorities of situations, and dispatch units in accordance with established procedures.

• Record details of calls, dispatches, and messages.

• Search files, databases or reference materials to obtain needed information.

• Enter information into databases or software programs.

• Monitor alarm systems to detect emergencies such as fires and illegal entry into establishments.

• Monitor and operate security video system to observe and detect potential issues

• Maintain access to, and security of, highly sensitive materials.

• Relay information and messages to and from emergency sites, and to all other individuals or groups requiring notification.

• Monitor equipment operation to ensure proper functioning.

• Adjust office equipment to ensure proper operation.

• Report maintenance or equipment problems to appropriate personnel.
