Job Summary:
The Relationship Development Representative is responsible for independently generating new memberships and loan business during on-site visits. This includes developing and generating new business relationships through in-person visits to sheriff and police stations, federal buildings, seminars, and other community locations. This position supports marketing and business development efforts and requires strong communication skills, confidence presenting to small and large groups, experience in sales, along with the ability to build and maintain relationships with members, prospective members, ambassadors, community members, and third-party vendors.
Key responsibilities include generating new business and community outreach for the Credit Union through participation in various public relation meetings and events such as sponsorships, business and charitable organizations, and community activities. Events include law enforcement recruitment classes, agency functions, picnics, banquets, and Credit Union-sponsored functions.
The Credit Union’s Field of Membership includes Southern California law enforcement professionals and individuals employed in the Police Protection and Foundation Industry located in Imperial, Kern, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties.
The RDO conducts off-site visits approximately 70% of the time, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends. Duties are performed primarily outside of the typical office setting with minimum time spent in an office environment.
Requirements:Outside Sales & Business Development - 70% of the time
- Recruit new members for the Credit Union and increase usage amongst current members by conducting site visits and marketing presentations. 4-5 days per week in the field conducting site/facility visits.
- Open new accounts and service existing accounts in the field. Cross-sell Credit Union products and services, including loans and ancillary products. Set up new account files and provide members with all necessary information for membership.
- Obtain consumer and real estate loan applications for members and potential members during off-site events/visits.
- Plan, coordinate, and implement a schedule of off-site relationship development visits encompassing all eligible agencies, to present information on available products and services. Independently prioritize target locations, agencies, and/or departments to structure membership/product growth initiatives.
- Present on Credit Union products and services to new recruits at various law enforcement academies, and at any other Credit Union events.
- Generate new leads and set on-site meetings. Develop and coordinate special events in partnership with the respective law enforcement departments to create sales opportunities.
- Follow-up on leads, potential members, and current members through the appropriate channel of communication (i.e., phone; email; mail; in-person); recommend new strategies to increase visibility and product/service penetration at scheduled site visits and events.
- Meet or exceed monthly sales, loan, and membership production goals.
- Independently manage sales pipeline and region development.
Community Outreach & Event Participation - 10% of the time
- Attend and represent the Credit Union at various public relation meetings and events such as sponsorships, business and charitable organizations, and community activities. Events include law enforcement recruitment classes, agency functions, picnics, banquets, and Credit Union-sponsored functions.
- Conduct presentations to small or large groups of members or prospective members to promote Credit Union products and services.
- Increase brand visibility and community awareness within the Credit Union’s field of membership.
- Identify new outreach and partnership opportunities to generate new business.
Travel Between Sales Locations - 10% of the time
- Travel within facilities/locations to conduct sales and enrollments.
- Plan and coordinate field schedules to maximize sales activity.
Sales reporting, Strategy & Administrative - 10% of the time
- Develop and maintain a contact management database that includes key facility contacts and any unique information pertaining to the particular facility/contact that may be useful prior to making site visit arrangements.
- Produce monthly relationship development reports to management, which include costs, results, potential members, opportunities for improvement, etc.
- Track new membership accounts, loans, and account cross-sells.
- Support strategic Credit Union growth goals.
- All other duties as assigned or requested by Marketing Development Manager.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- A college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school with an emphasis in business administration, sales, marketing, communications, and/or similar discipline.
- Minimum of two to five years of similar or related experience, including time spent in preparatory positions.
- Significant experience in sales is preferred.
- Project a professional and positive image of the Credit Union at all times.
- Maintain current and thorough knowledge of POPA FCU products/services and those of our competitors.
- Ability to conduct oral presentations to a small or large audience.
- Adhere to Credit Union compliance, policies, procedures, and federal regulations pertaining to marketing and relationship development activities
- A valid California driver’s and own reliable automobile; must have, maintain, and show proof of current auto insurance coverage.
- Must be flexible to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
- Ability to organize and plan effectively and efficiently.
- Demonstrated ability in using appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to create excitement for product, services, and/or ideas from potential and current members, and all other individuals related to Credit Union business.
- Exercises appropriate judgement when communicating to members and potential members. A significant amount of trust, credibility, and diplomacy is required.
- Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills with capability to present in front of various size groups. Leaves favorable impressions by interacting with potential and current members, and all other individuals related to Credit Union business.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly with Word and PowerPoint.
- Prior CU marketing or business development experience is highly desirable.
- Must be bondable.
- Must register with Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS).
- Must comply with all Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and other Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Laws and Regulations, as they pertain to federal guidelines and internal policies and procedures.
- Must complete compliance training to ensure adherence to legal and regulatory requirements, including security awareness and BSA training.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to bend, sit, and stand in order to perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals, keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators. Must be able to routinely perform work on a computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day. Must be able to work early mornings, evenings, or weekends to attend events. Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance. Extended periods of driving, walking, and standing may be required. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear, walk, reach with hands and arms; and stoop, or kneel. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Working Conditions:
This position requires frequent and regular travel to local locations throughout Southern California counties. Significant time will be spent driving between locations, meetings, job sites, and networking events.
Must be able to routinely perform work outdoors with varying weather conditions. Indoor work may be in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise.
