About This Position
Oversees all planning, maintenance, and updates to physical recreation property within the City, including Jeffrey Mansion, parks, playgrounds, pool facilities, park shelters, park restrooms, and skatepark.
Carries out supervisory responsibility by policies, procedures, and applicable laws, including interviewing and training staff; planning, assigning, and directing work; establishing deadlines; rewarding and disciplining employees; coordinating staff training; coordinating daily schedules, approving leave requests; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Oversees the set up and clean up for recreational activities and special events, including field striping and preparation, court maintenance, classroom setup, equipment setup, Mansion rentals, and other events.
Partners across departments and roles, including Grounds & Urban Forestry, Events, and Recreation to plan and prioritize work.
Oversees regular and special maintenance for Jeffrey Mansion and Park, including daily cleaning; HVAC, plumbing, electrical and other mechanical maintenance; carpentry, painting, and other aesthetic maintenance; and large special upgrade projects.
Supervises the maintenance of hardscape grounds within the recreational facilities, including sidewalks, parking lots, driveways, retaining walls, and walking paths.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Manages employees in the Parks department. Manages staff consultants and contractors providing subject-matter expertise and specialized work to the department. Additional responsibilities include: interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, conducting performance appraisals, motivating, and when necessary, disciplining employees.

Education and/or Experience:Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is highly desirable.
3 or more years of experience in a maintenance or related position
The City will consider an equivalent combination of education, training, and related experience.
Other Requirements:
Class B CDL (obtain within one year of hire)
Current and valid Ohio Driver’s license and acceptable driving record
Knowledge of:
Management principles and practices.
Facilities maintenance practices, including basic HVAC, plumbing, electrical troubleshooting.
Tools, materials, and equipment used in the areas assigned.
Methods and practices of equipment and tools, construction, repair and/or maintenance of the areas assigned.
The occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work and related equipment operation.
The safe use, operation and preventative maintenance of the equipment and tools to which assigned.
Load securement regulations.
Skill in:
The use of equipment, hand, and power tools to which assigned.
All computer applications, systems and hardware related to performance of the essential functions of the job.
Effectively communicating orally and in writing with internal staff, citizens, and other departmental staff to give and receive information in a courteous manner.

Understand and follow specific oral and written instructions.
Prepare plans and detailed reports.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other City staff, contractors, and the public.
Plan and supervise the work of skilled, semiskilled, or unskilled workers on a large scale over a wide area.

Determine the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surrounding and activities.
Working Conditions:
The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, and atmospheric conditions. The worker may be called in to work 24 hours/day, seven days/week. The worker may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment. Exert 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, and perform repetitive motions.
