About This Position

Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

The Herro-Franke Studio Theater Stagehand (HFST Stagehand) works as a part of a team of seven other Resident Crew Members and is responsible for the implementation, running, and maintenance of all production elements for Milwaukee Repertory Theater Productions in the Herro-Franke Studio Theater. The HFST Stagehand is part of a collaborative team of artists and technicians dedicated to achieving the highest production values possible.

Major Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Act as crew lead during load-ins and outs for crews of up to 15
  • Assist in the scenic, lighting, sound, and video load-ins for all Herro-Franke Studio productions
  • Maintain scenery, lighting, sound, video, and props for all Herro-Franke Studio productions
  • Maintain effective communication with production staff and creative teams, attending meetings when necessary
  • Maintain a safe working environment in all performance spaces and work areas

SCHEDULE

Hours are based around the performance schedule which includes evenings, weekends, and some afternoons. This is a seasonal position running August 17, 2026 to May 16, 2027.

Requirements:

REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION

Technical Knowledge and Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years working in large scale regional theater or equivalent experience
  • Extensive experience in either lighting or sound with a working knowledge of the other. Applicants should have the ability to read and comprehend lighting and speaker plots, as well as scenic drawings
  • Lighting specialists should have extensive experience with the installation and maintenance of theatrical lighting fixtures both incandescent and LED, as well as significant experience in programming and running ETC ION consoles
  • Sound specialists should have proficient knowledge in the console setup and operation of the Yamaha DM7 well as extensive experience in the installation, programming, and running of complex QLab workspaces

  • Must be able to maneuver bulky and heavy materials, sometimes lifting up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders.
