Location: Portland, OR (Hybrid or In-Office)Position OverviewWe are seeking a part-time Staff Accountant to manage the day-to-day accounting operations of our growing business. This role ensures that financial records are accurate, organized, and up to date while supporting leadership with reliable financial information.The Staff Accountant will handle core accounting functions including accounts payable, cash deposits, reconciliations, collections, and month-end preparation. The role will work alongside an external fractional controller who provides financial oversight, reporting, and cash forecasting.This position is ideal for someone who enjoys keeping financial systems organized, accurate, and running smoothly in an operational business environment.Key ResponsibilitiesAccounts PayableEnter and code vendor invoicesMaintain vendor recordsPrepare weekly check runs and ACH payment batchesCoordinate payment approvals with leadershipAccounts ReceivableRecord customer payments and depositsRecognize revenueMaintain accurate customer balancesSend customer statementsFollow up on overdue invoices and assist with collectionsCash & DepositsRecord incoming payments and make bank depositsEnsure accurate posting of payments to customer accountsMaintain daily cash visibilityReconciliationsPerform regular reconciliations for:Bank accountsCredit cardsAccounts receivableAccounts payableBalance sheet accountsRevenue accountsInvestigate and resolve discrepancies when needed.Month-End Close SupportReconcile accountsPost journal entriesAssist in preparing financial statementsMake accrualsEnsure records are accurate and ready for review by the fractional controllerPayroll EntriesRecord payroll summary journal entries from the payroll provider into QuickBooksCash Forecast SupportMaintain inputs for the 13-week cash flow forecastUpdate bank balances, expected customer receipts, and vendor obligations weeklySupport the fractional controller’s weekly cash review processFinancial Reporting SupportPrepare monthly financial reporting package including Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and supporting schedulesMaintain Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable aging reportsAssist in preparing cash reporting and cash position summariesMaintain reporting inputs for the 13-week cash flow forecastPrepare supporting schedules and documentation for review by the fractional controller and ops directorAssist with budget vs. actual reporting as neededEnsure accounting entries are recorded in accordance with applicable tax requirements and maintain supporting documentation for tax reportingSupport the preparation and timely filing of required quarterly and annual tax reports in coordination with external tax advisorsMaintain organized financial records and schedules needed for tax filings, audits, and regulatory reportingQualificationsRequired:3+ years accounting or bookkeeping experienceExperience performing monthly account reconciliationsExperience supporting month-end closeStrong organizational and attention-to-detail skillsProficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks)Strong Excel or spreadsheet skillsBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred but not required- Equivalent professional accounting experience will be considered
