JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: English Language Development (ELD) Coordinator

Employment Classification: Full-time, Salary, Exempt, Certificated (12 months)

Reports to: Assistant Head of School

Anticipated Start Date: June 2026

Position Summary: The English Language Development (ELD) Coordinator leads the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services for English Learners (ELs) to ensure equitable access to academic success. This position focuses on supporting teachers, administrators, and other instructional staff by providing guidance on effective instructional practices, compliance with state and federal regulations, and culturally responsive teaching. The ELD Coordinator plays a critical role in promoting inclusive, linguistically appropriate educational experiences for multilingual students.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor English Language Development programs aligned with state standards and federal guidelines (e.g., ESSA, Title III).
  • Provide instructional coaching and professional development for teachers and staff focused on EL strategies, language acquisition, and culturally responsive pedagogy.
  • Support curriculum development and lesson planning to integrate language development across content areas.
  • Schedule, administer, and ensure accurate and timely reporting of all ELPAC testing
  • Analyze student achievement data, including language proficiency assessments (i.e. ELPAC), to guide instruction and identify needs.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal mandates related to English Learners, including EL identification, placement, reclassification, and parent communication.
  • Serve as a liaison between the school and families of English Learners, supporting family engagement and access to resources.
  • Assist in organizing ELAC.
  • Collaborate with school and district leadership to align EL programming with broader equity and academic goals.
  • Provide leadership in the adoption and use of instructional materials and digital tools that support English language development.
  • Implement a support plan for supporting teachers and students (EL and RFEP).
Requirements:

Knowledge, Skill, and Experience Requirements:

  • Valid California Clear Multiple Subject or Single Subject Teaching Credential with English Learner Authorization (CLAD, BCLAD, ELD, or Bilingual Certificate of Competence).
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful full-time classroom teaching experience, preferably with grades 7–12 students and English Language Learners.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of literacy development, effective instructional strategies, and assessment practices, particularly for diverse learners.
  • Experience providing instructional coaching and/or facilitating professional development for teachers, instructional assistants, and/or administrators.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, administrators, and school staff.
  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license, proof of automobile insurance, and the ability to obtain DMV clearance.
  • Ability to successfully complete all pre-employment requirements, including criminal background clearance (DOJ/FBI fingerprinting), TB clearance, drug screening, and verification of previous employment.

  • Two current letters of recommendation.
  • Copy of Clear or Preliminary Single Subject Credential or appropriate Certificate.
  • Copy of English Learner Authorization (CLAD or equivalent).
  • Copy of BA degree and Transcripts.

Working Environment/Physical Requirements:

  • Primarily a classroom environment. Position may require use of personal vehicle. Physical requirements include standing, sitting, typing, bending and lifting up to approximately 50 lbs. (i.e. tables, chairs, food, water, etc.)

Modification to work schedule may be made based on need of the Academy.
