A Day in the Life of a Volunteer Services Manager

No two days are the same for a Volunteer Services Manager. As a Volunteer Services Manager, you will partner with clinical teams to align volunteer support with hospice patient needs, lead trainings, and build meaningful volunteer experiences in hospice. A successful Volunteer Services Manager inspires volunteers, strengthens community partnerships, and ensures every interaction reflects the heart of hospice.

What You’ll Do

As a Volunteer Services Manager, you will:

  • Lead and grow a volunteer program aligned with hospice priorities
  • Recruit, train, and retain volunteers supporting hospice services
  • Oversee onboarding, supervision, and performance management
  • Develop new volunteer opportunities that expand hospice reach
  • Manage budgets, reporting, and quality improvement for hospice programs
  • Serve as the Volunteer Services advocate within the hospice interdisciplinary team
  • Inspire excellence and engagement across all hospice volunteer activities

Schedule & Work Details

  • Monday through Friday 8:15 am-4:45 pm.
  • Occasional afterhours and weekends when volunteer support is requested for patients (e.g., 11th Hour “Vigil” volunteers who support actively dying patients); afterhours and weekend support is coordinated between the Volunteer Services Manager and designee(s).
  • Schedule may at times require coordination prior to the start of work day and/or after hours.
  • Periodic travel required.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree (human services or related field preferred)
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience
  • Volunteer management experience preferred
  • Strong leadership, facilitation, and organizational skills
  • Passion for serving others through hospice
  • A proactive, mission-driven approach as a Volunteer Services Manager

Salary Description

We support our employees’ wellbeing and regularly benchmark with other companies in our industry to offer an extensive Total Reward package for this position. The expected base salary range for this role is $57,800 - $78,000. However, final base pay will be carefully determined based on several factors, including education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
