The City of Bonney Lake is hiring for 2 Maintenance Workers I/II in the Water Division of our Public Works Team!

Maintenance Worker I
Salary Range: $4,820.84 to $6,367.95 per month

Maintenance Worker II
Salary Range: $5,622.55 to $7,410.41 per month

General Purpose
Perform general labor and semi-skilled work in the construction, maintenance, repair, and replacement of the City’s water facilities. Contribute to the City’s vision, mission, and goals in the performance of all job duties. This classification is part of a series.


Supervision
Reports To: Public Works Crew Lead, Assistant Superintendent of Public Works
Supervises: None. May provide guidance to temporary staff assigned to the division.


Distinguishing Characteristics
The Maintenance Worker I is the entry-level position in the Maintenance Series. Incumbents are expected to have general knowledge of construction, maintenance and repair procedures and practices and once trained, the incumbent performs routine level maintenance work in the division to which they are assigned. The Maintenance Worker II is the intermediate-level position in the Maintenance Series. Incumbents are expected to have sufficient knowledge of construction, maintenance and repair procedures and practices and once trained, the duties require a high level of accuracy and knowledge of maintenance procedures and policies in which consequences of an error would be of great detriment. The incumbent independently performs routine to somewhat complex level of duties and maintenance work in the division to which they are assigned and requires the exercise of considerable independent judgment and action within the policies and procedures of the department.


EssentialFunctions
The following are required functions for the Maintenance Worker I position:
  • Set up traffic control devices and perform flagging functions in work zones; ensure a safe working environment according to established safety guidelines.
  • Mow grass, rake leaves and clear debris and litter from walks, fields, streets, parking lots, courts and other facilities.
  • Safely operate and/or drive various equipment and machinery and safely perform all assigned functions of position.
  • Perform work in a timely and professional manner. Perform duties in accordance with appropriate safety standards as outlined in the Accident Prevention Plan or other position specific safety responsibilities.
  • Respond to complaints and service requests, evaluate situation and explains findings to Lead or Assistant Superintendent.
  • Interact courteously with citizens, customers, vendors, the public and other employees.
  • Contact residents and business owners in area where services or access may be discontinued and explains when access or services will be restored.
  • Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned tools and equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor.
  • Maintain a variety of records (handwritten and electronic) relating to maintenance activities, inspections, repairs, and other areas.
  • Perform required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew and restores the site to its original or better condition.
  • Perform graffiti removal duties as necessary.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance are essential to ensure optimal productivity and customer service.
  • Work any day or time during emergencies for snow/ice control work, natural disaster response and recovery or for other unscheduled emergencies.
  • Assist other departments or divisions, as assigned.
  • May serve as a member of various committees as assigned.

In addition to above, employees assigned to the following areas have more specialized duties described as follows:

Water Section
  • Assist in the installation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of various components of the public water distribution and treatment system including, but not limited to: water mains, service lines, hydrants, reading, setting and testing water meters,
  • wells, storage reservoirs, emergency generators, booster pumps, check valves, and various other components.
  • Work closely with the billing office to accomplish shut-off and turn-on activities in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist with utility locates for both city and developer/builder use.

Education, Experience and License Requirements
Maintenance Worker I
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Four (4) months’ experience in the construction trade related to the position/division assigned.
  • Experience for Facilities Maintenance Worker I must be in construction and/or property management/maintenance.
  • Successful passing of a background check, driving abstract, drug and alcohol screening.
  • The following are required within 1 (one) year of hire.
    • CDL Class A with Tanker Endorsement
    • Flaggers
    • CPR/FA
    • Confined Space
Maintenace Worker II
  • High school diploma or equivalent graduate.
  • Three (3) years’ experience relating to construction, maintenance, and repair or with a public utility in a similar position OR three years’ experience as a Maintenance Worker I with the City of Bonney Lake.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License endorsed for CDL Class A
  • Successful passing of a background check, driving abstract, drug and alcohol screening
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Washington State Traffic Control Flagger Card.
  • Confined Space Entry
  • Competent Person
  • Asbestos Pipe.
  • Experience with public utilities and computer skills are preferred.

Special Requirements
One or more of the appropriate certifications for the assigned division and career track within that division, which could include:
  • Water Distribution Manager II or Water Treatment Plant Operator I
  • Cross Connection Control Specialist.

Physical Demands
  • Moving throughout City facilities and buildings.
  • Travel to off-site locations and move throughout the community as needed.
  • Drive and perform field work.
  • Operate a computer and other office equipment.
  • Communicate with City employees and residents.
  • Employee must have the physical strength and ability to sufficiently perform manual labor for extended periods of time under dirty and uncomfortable situations.
  • Lift or move items weighing up to 51 pounds regularly.

Work Environment
  • Performed outdoors in all weather conditions. Exposure to high voltage wires, hazardous materials, heights, and noise from equipment.
  • Frequently works on uneven and steep surfaces that are often wet and slippery.
  • Noise level out in the field is moderately loud.
  • Work evening and/or weekend hours as needed.
  • Work may be in hazardous areas, including street surfaces, rights-of-way, medians, ditches, pits and underground vaults.
  • Workaround heavy equipment or potentially dangerous tools.
  • Assignments may occasionally require work in inclement weather and/or dirty, wet noisy or cramped work sites.
  • This position requires the physical ability to perform manual tasks, and mobility to navigate all types of surfaces and terrain.


Tools And Equipment Used
Pickups, one-yard loaders or less, tractors and implements, rollers, jackhammers, air compressors, concrete saws, chain saws, rakes, shovels, mowers, blowers, leaf machines, hand tools, chippers, small power equipment, generators, pressure washers, sprayers and spreaders, forklifts, computers, personal protection equipment, and various other tools and equipment.
