Who We Are

Founded in 1977, Rise Recovery exists to help teens, young adults, and families in San Antonio and beyond to overcome the effects of drugs and alcohol while partnering with the community in education and prevention. Since its founding, Rise Recovery has worked to provide a safe, welcoming space where healing happens, connections grow, and lives transform. Through peer support, education, and recovery-focused programs, Rise Recovery walks alongside every individual and family, offering hope, tools, and guidance to help them reclaim their futures.

Currently, Rise Recovery serves over 4500 individuals each year at no cost to its clients. Rise receives revenue from diverse sources including public and private funding. Rise is financially sound and seeks to focus on having an even greater impact going forward. As Rise Recovery approaches its 50th anniversary of serving the San Antonio region, it is well-positioned to make an even greater impact in the coming years. For the past 10 years, Rise Recovery has opened new facilities, expanded services, increased participation, and increased its overall impact on the San Antonio community.

With the current CEO’s plan to transition to a new career, Rise Recovery is approaching an important transition in leadership. We are seeking an inspirational leader to join our mission to help young people and families overcome the effects of addiction and substance use.

Roles and Responsibilities

The CEO is responsible for the overall performance of Rise Recovery in line with the organization’s mission, vision, and expected outcomes as established by the Board of Directors, in partnership with the CEO and Leadership Team.

  • Board Governance: Collaborate with an engaged and committed Board of Directors to fulfill the organization’s mission.
  • Leadership and Management: Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence, rigorous program data collection, and evaluation; consistent quality of finance and administration; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve strategic goals and objectives.
  • Fundraising and Communications: Expand organization revenue through fundraising and earned revenue to support current and new program operations. Develop and actively engage and energize Rise Recovery’s various stakeholders including donors, board members, community leaders, and funders. Deepen and refine all aspects of communications. Build a visible and influential external community.
  • Planning: In collaboration with the Board of Directors and Leadership Team, develop and implement a strategic business plan for growth. Measure and enhance the impact of the programs and partnerships of Rise Recovery.
  • External Relations: Engage in activities and relationships outside the organization to further the mission. Develop new revenue and lead the Rise Recovery advocacy strategy. Position Rise Recovery programs as a model for regional and national replication.

Key Organizational Opportunities and Challenges

Given the above foundational context, the following opportunities and challenges speak to the core issues that Rise Recovery is addressing and will continue to address within the next three to five years.

  • Financial Stability, Efficiency and Growth: Achieve continued financial stability through new and enhanced revenue streams, as well as disciplined expense management. Create a sustainable business model which responds quickly to changes in funding sources. Rise Recovery aims to strengthen its financial position to support its current mission and expand opportunities.
  • Strategic Planning: Working in partnership with the Board of Directors and in collaboration with the Leadership Team, design and implement the strategic planning process and implementation to grow and enhance the impact of the Rise Recovery programs, including its Alternative Peer Groups, Rise Inspire Academy, Community ISD programs, Intensive Outpatient programs (IOP), Rise Training Institute, and medical therapy in collaboration with Be Well Texas.
  • Strategic Partnerships: Continue to form and strengthen strategic partnerships across all aspects of Rise Recovery’s services lines.
  • Fundraising and Communications: Continue to develop and maintain key constituent relationships with donors, key funders, independent school districts, and appropriate government agencies.
  • Continuous Quality Improvement: Further enhance Rise Recovery’s ongoing, data-driven, and processes framework aimed at systematically improving processes, services, and outcomes.
  • Successfully Navigate the Current Uncertain Operating Climate: Successfully navigate this current uncertain political and economic environment, understanding that this will result in the need to continue its careful stewardship of existing resources and provide new opportunities to serve.

By achieving these key opportunities and challenges, under the leadership of its next CEO, Rise Recovery will:

  • Maintain win-back and expand partnerships, stakeholders and donors.
  • Enhance its financial stability through funding and expense management.
  • Be the provider of choice, achieve growth, and demonstrate positive outcomes in the program areas that it operates.
  • Execute a robust fundraising strategy.

Accountability, Salary, and Benefits

The CEO is accountable to the Rise Recovery Board of Directors. The Board establishes compensation for the CEO which will be determined based on experience and meet the requirements defined by the Internal Revenue Service.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Ability to successfully complete and pass state, federal background checks.
  • A willingness to work in/ relocate to San Antonio, Texas.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Marketing, Clinical Discipline, or related field | OR a minimum of five years of related significant professional experience.
  • Minimum of five years (5) of experience in senior leadership or CEO role in a Behavioral Health, Social Services, or Not for Profit (Non-Profit) environment.
  • Ability to work professionally with sensitive, proprietary data & information while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Excellent people skills including the ability to interact effectively and professionally with individuals at all levels; both internal and external.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws, rules and regulations governing mental health and addiction treatment outpatient services and related funding (CMS, HHSC, HIPAA, 42 CFR). Strong knowledge of Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) standards and the proven ability to lead successful licensure, accreditation, and compliance efforts in a behavioral health facility.

Preferred:

  • A Master's degree in Health Care Administration, Business Administration, Clinical Discipline or related field .
  • Significant knowledge of and experience working within the social services arena in and around Bexar County.
  • Personal knowledge of recovery and/or recovery processes, clinical experience, and/or a background in education.
  • Strong financial acumen and business orientation with a working knowledge of fiscal management, business development and fundraising.
  • Experience in implementing principles of continuous quality improvement and data integrity.
