About This Position

Why This Role is Exciting

This is more than a leadership role, it’s an opportunity to make a lasting impact within a century-old, family-owned legacy. Your voice will carry real weight and play a central role in decision-making, supported by a culture of clarity, alignment, and thoughtful execution. You will lead a broad mandate spanning Finance, HR, and IT, and serve as a primary architect of our future, shaping the trajectory of a company in motion while participating in a rewards structure tied directly to the impact you create. We are seeking a “player-coach” who can move seamlessly between high-level strategic advisory and hands-on operational leadership.

Company Overview:

Best Equipment Company is a premier, family-owned heavy equipment dealership and rental provider that has served the Midwest for over 100 years. With a commitment to providing the "Best Experience," we specialize in the sales, service, and rental of environmental and specialized equipment. Our family values are the heart of our business, and we pride ourselves on a culture of empowerment and exceptional service.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Strategy & Capital Management

  • Strategy & Advisory: Own the company’s financial strategy and act as the primary advisor to ownership, translating complex data into clear business guidance.
  • Modeling & Forecasting: Lead annual budgeting and multi-year forecasting. Build sophisticated models for pricing, capital investments, and new product lines to identify margin drivers and revenue opportunities.
  • Reporting & KPIs: Produce monthly reporting packages with trend commentary and forward-looking recommendations. Build dashboards that provide real-time visibility into key operational KPIs.
  • Incentive Design: Lead the annual variable compensation goal-setting process, designing and modeling financial targets across the entire organization.

Capital Management & Banking Relationships

  • Relationship Management: Serve as the primary manager for all banking, lending, and floor plan partners, leading annual renewals and credit line negotiations.
  • Financing Lifecycle: Oversee floor plan and inventory financing. Manage the complete financial lifecycle of facility construction, including financing structures, draw schedules, and lender reporting.
  • Capital Allocation: Proactively evaluate and model capital allocation opportunities, managing interest rate exposure and debt structures across all credit facilities.

Accounting, Controls & Risk

  • Operational Excellence: Direct all day-to-day accounting (GL, AP, AR, fixed assets, and payroll), driving continuous improvement to compress month-end close timelines.
  • Controls & Audit: Design and enforce internal controls, segregation of duties, and documentation standards. Lead all audit processes as the primary point of contact for external auditors.
  • Treasury & Compliance: Manage company-wide cash flow and liquidity. Ensure full compliance with all applicable financial and employment regulations.

Human Resources Executive Leadership

  • Strategic HR: Provide oversight for the HR function, including workforce planning, organizational design, and serving as an escalation point for complex employee matters.
  • Compensation & Benefits: Lead annual salary benchmarking and merit reviews. Own the company-wide variable compensation program end-to-end and manage all employee benefits and renewals.

Information Technology Strategy

  • Systems Roadmap: Own the ERP roadmap (Microsoft Business Central/NAV), leading implementation planning and ongoing governance.
  • Data & Integration: Partner with the Solutions Architect to ensure financial, operational, and HR systems are integrated and producing accurate, accessible data.
  • Infrastructure & Security: Oversee IT security posture, disaster recovery planning, and technology vendor relationships. Lead change management for all new system rollouts.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 10+ years of progressive financial leadership (CFO, VP, or Controller), preferably within a dealership, rental, or capital-intensive industry.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required; CPA or MBA is strongly preferred.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead and develop diverse, cross-functional teams while managing large-scale organizational change.
  • Technical Savvy: High proficiency in leveraging ERP systems (Microsoft Business Central/NAV preferred) and data tools to drive business insights.
  • Communication: Outstanding executive presence with the ability to influence stakeholders and present complex financial concepts to non-financial audiences.

Benefits:

Starting salary is competitive and will be based on qualification and experience. Best Equipment offers medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, 401K, 10 paid holidays, vacation and sick time, plus more benefits. For more information on Best Equipment, please visit www.BestEquipmentCo.com .
