POSITION DESCRIPTION

PROJECT: Moffett Federal Airfield - NUQ

DEPARTMENT: Airfield Maintenance

TITLE: Airfield Landscaper

Pay Range: $28-$32/hour

REPORTS TO: Maintenance Manager

Responsibility Level:

This is a landscaping and maintenance position which includes the operation of heavy landscaping equipment to maintain airfield grounds and the maintenance/repair of landscaping equipment.

This is a full-time position working ten (10) hours per day, four (4) days per week.

Essential Duties:

  • Plans daily with Maintenance Manager landscaping activities according to Airport Master Plan. Maintains airport movement area grounds according to professional and regulatory standards providing for an attractive and functional landscape. Conducts daily inspection based on Part 139 requirements, correcting or reporting problems as they occur. Maintenance of various types of automotive, heavy landscaping equipment.
  • Performs care and maintenance on trees, shrubs, and lawn using proper equipment, chemicals and landscaping techniques to ensure healthy appearance.
  • Maintains Airport grounds sprinkler systems.
  • Operates and maintains heavy duty equipment and vehicles on landside and on the airfield: mowing tractor, forklift, boom lift, sweeper truck, etc.
  • Cleans debris from runways and other airport grounds and documents work done.
  • Maintain landscaping on landside and on airfield which includes specific landscaping requirements for the burrowing owl habitat preserve known as NRP-19.
  • Apply approved herbicides/pesticides and predator deterrence application, such as bird spikes.
  • Document’s work, material, and time to appropriate forms.
  • Maintains Ramp Safety Program by enforcing airport rules and regulations through the Airfield Access and Driver’s Training program.
  • Assures compliance with minimum standards and regulations relating SWPPP.
  • Assists other maintenance workers on jobs requiring more than one person.
  • Other duties or special projects as assigned.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Read, write, and speak English.
  • Materials, methods, practice of general landscaping maintenance. Must have ability to operate and maintain tractor, mowers, weed eaters, edgers, trimmers and various other hand tools.
  • Methods and practices of landscaping chemical materials and tools of this craft.
  • Ability to read and understand manufacturer manuals, diagrams, schematics, and instructions.
  • Exercise care in the use of tools, equipment, and machinery.
  • Work harmoniously with fellow workers and others.
  • Follow established safety regulations and practices and use available safety devices and PPE.
  • Ability to climb and perform work on ladders, lifts, and rooftops.
  • Ability to understand and comprehend airfield operations and to safely operate in those areas on the airfield.
  • Ability to work long hours, overtime, Holidays, and weekends as needed.
  • Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience:
  • One year experience in commercial landscaping.
  • One year in a skilled technical craft related to landscaping and equipment maintenance.
  • Equivalent combination of acceptable training and experience may be considered by the HR Manager and Maintenance Manager.
  • Licenses, Registrations and/or Certificates:
  • Herbicide/Pesticide License, Spray Herbicide/Pesticide Application Training, Environmental Compliance Overview (ECO) Awareness Training, NRP-19 Maintenance Training, Tractor Operation Training, PPE Training, Preventative Maintenance Training to be completed after hire.
  • Must pass mandatory drug screenings, criminal background checks & obtain security clearance.
  • Must maintain a valid Class C motor vehicle operator’s license as issued by the State of California.
  • Completion of ALL Cal/OSHA required training within first 90 days.

The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include: vision, ability to distinguish colors, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Employee is required to participate in a drug/alcohol free workplace.
