Senior Technical Animator

This role offers a unique opportunity to combine artistic skill with technical expertise to shape the animation systems of immersive video games. You will collaborate closely with animators, designers, and engineers to develop and maintain rigs, pipelines, and runtime solutions that bring characters to life. The position is hands-on, focused on optimizing character performance, integrating motion capture, and building tools that improve workflow efficiency. You will also set technical standards, mentor junior team members, and ensure animation assets meet high-quality and performance benchmarks. This role is ideal for someone passionate about bridging art and technology to create compelling gameplay experiences in a dynamic, creative studio environment.

Accountabilities:
  • Develop and maintain animation systems, rigs, automated lip sync systems, and runtime solutions within the game engine
  • Build tools and pipelines that enhance efficiency and scalability of animation workflows
  • Collaborate with animators to ensure rigs, skeletons, and animation assets perform optimally in-game
  • Integrate animation features with gameplay engineers and troubleshoot complex technical issues
  • Optimize animation assets for performance, memory usage, and runtime stability
  • Support motion capture integration, retargeting, and procedural animation systems when needed
  • Document best practices and technical workflows for the animation team
  • Mentor junior technical animators and assist the broader team with technical challenges
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of technical animation or rigging experience in the video game industry
  • Strong proficiency with Unreal Engine
  • Expertise with Maya or similar DCC tools, including rigging and scripting workflows
  • Experience with animation state machines, blend trees, and runtime animation systems
  • Deep understanding of character rigging, skinning, and deformation systems
  • Familiarity with Python, MEL, C++, or Blueprint scripting for tools and pipeline development
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex animation issues
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working cross-functionally with art, design, and engineering teams
  • Nice to have: motion capture pipeline experience, procedural animation, physics-based animation, IK systems, console/PC optimization, shipped AAA or mid-sized studio games, tool/plugin development
