The Transportation Manager is responsible for developing and executing MKB’s transportation strategy across all modes, ensuring efficient, scalable, and cost-effective logistics operations.
This role oversees significant transportation spend and serves as a key connector between corporate strategy, plant operations, and external logistics partners—driving alignment, visibility, and continuous improvement across our network.
Key ResponsibilitiesTransportation Strategy & Execution- Serve as the subject matter expert for all transportation modes, including 3PL, truckload, flatbed, private fleet, LTL, and parcel
- Develop and execute strategies to optimize cost, service, and efficiency
- Lead sourcing initiatives, including RFP development, carrier selection, and implementation
- Manage relationships with 3PL partners and carriers, including:
- Rate negotiations and contract management
- Service performance and expectations
- Accessorial charges and payment terms
- Conduct regular business reviews and ensure alignment with operational needs
- Drive utilization of preferred carriers and providers
- Oversee and optimize performance of company-owned fleet operations
- Identify and implement cost savings and process improvements through data analysis and cross-functional collaboration
- Resolve escalated transportation issues from internal stakeholders
- Develop, track, and report on key transportation metrics and KPIs
- Monitor freight spend performance against budget and operational targets
- Calculate and report transportation savings
- Partner with plant leaders and cross-functional teams to execute transportation strategies
- Support budgeting and planning processes
- Lead transportation integration efforts for acquisitions
- Share best practices across locations to drive consistency and efficiency
- Stay current on transportation market trends, capacity shifts, and cost drivers
- Adjust strategies as needed to maintain service and cost competitiveness
- Reliable and consistent attendance
- Other duties as needed
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Transportation, or related field preferred
- 7+ years of transportation experience, with strong exposure to truckload, flatbed, and 3PL management
- Experience in a multi-site or matrix organization preferred
- Proven track record of driving continuous improvement and cost savings initiatives
- Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong analytical skills with experience in Excel, Power BI, or similar tools
