Our Ideal Candidate

AIM School Counselors utilize leadership, advocacy, and collaboration to assess student needs, establish goals, implement school-based counseling plans, and coordinate schoolwide services that benefit both students and staff. Counselors provide individual and group counseling, intervene in crisis situations, facilitate referrals, and work closely with administrators, teachers, families, and community agencies to ensure students feel safe, connected, and empowered to succeed. AIM counselors also support key systems such as standardized testing, data interpretation, student placement, and scheduling to promote equitable access to opportunities and strong student outcomes, while fostering an engaging, supportive environment grounded in belonging, high expectations, strong relationships, and a clear sense of mission and purpose.

Requirements:

Key Responsibilities

  • Counseling and Guidance
  • Provide high quality comprehensive counseling and guidance program for high school students
  • Define and interpret the guidance and counseling program to students, teachers, parents, administrators, and community members
  • Establish effective rapport with students
  • Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide educational foundation
  • Conduct counseling and guidance learning activities in the classroom in collaboration with teaching staff for each assigned grade level during the school year.
  • Student Development & Mentorship
  • Assist students in developing an academic plan and provide a method for documenting and reviewing the plan annually
  • Assist in course placement of individual students, including students with special needs, to ensure appropriate educational situations
  • Assist with supervision of student records and transcripts to ensure compliance as per state and federal regulations
  • Guide individuals and groups of students through the development of educational, personal, social and career plans
  • Inform students and parents of test results and their implications for academic, college/career and personal/social development of all students
  • Communication, Collaboration & School Culture
  • Communicates with administrators, teachers, students, parents, and the community regarding the counseling program and its role in the educational program
  • Identify student needs periodically and uses the results for program planning
  • Establish a planning calendar for counseling program activities
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law Report absences and takes leave in accordance with Board Policies and procedures

Perform additional duties as may be assigned or required by the CEO, Governing Board, or applicable federal or state requirements.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Valid Georgia school counseling certification (or eligibility to obtain one)
  • A minimum of 2 years of successful school counseling experience
  • Proven commitment to student success and wellness, particularly for students from diverse backgrounds

Preferred

  • A strong understanding of using data for student improvement
  • A desire to contribute to building a school model from the ground up
