Pharmacy Practice Resident

SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Pharmacy Director and the assigned Residency Program Director , the Pharmacy Practice Resident is a one-year position which combines post-graduate training and education with a defined service component (staffing). The goal of the position is consistent with those expressed by the American Society of Health System Pharmacist (ASHP) in their accreditation standards. The residency program provides opportunities to accelerate professional growth and competence in patient-centered care and pharmacy operational services, and further develop leadership skills that can be applied in any position and in any practice setting. Emphasis is placed on the progressive development of skillful problem solving and clinical judgment.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

*Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

*Provides evidence-based, patient-centered medication therapy management with interdisciplinary collaboration through assigned rotational learning experiences; under the guidance and supervision of a pharmacist preceptor, attends and actively participates in patient care team meetings by problem solving and becoming involved in the transition of the care planning process; effectively carries out clinical services associated with each assigned experience.

*Develops leadership and practice management skills; through the completion of rotational experiences, the resident learns many aspects of health system pharmacy operations including topics such as formulary management, medication safety, new clinical program development, committee participation, budgeting, staffing, automation and informatics.

*Demonstrates project management skills through the completion of an appropriate project; the project is directed toward useful outcomes such as problem-solving, development, enhancement or evaluation of some aspect of pharmacy operations or patient care services; residents are required to make a formal presentation of results obtained and submit a summary suitable for publication.

*Review physician orders and drug regimens including computer-order entry and validation of physician medication orders with appropriate clinical review and consultation/intervention as needed.

*Supervises, coordinates work, mentors and teaches pharmacy students.

*Participates in the documentation of clinical activities, medication use evaluations, adverse drug events, formulary compliance, etc.

*Assures team members meet Federal and State laws and regulations as well as standards set by Joint Commission; follows the policies and procedures of Bryan Health.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduate of a College of Pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree required. Registration status as a pharmacist in the State of Nebraska required.
