WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR: The Direct Support Professional (DSP) – Community Driver will work as part of a team to serve individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the Springfield area.
This role includes serving as a Community Driver and requires transporting clients to medical appointments, community activities, errands, and other approved outings. Driving is an essential function of this position.
At Rise & Shine, DSPs support clients with living meaningful and rewarding lives. This includes assisting with daily living activities, administering medication, community integration, and advocacy.
FLSA Status: Non-exempt, hourly
Reports to: Program Manager
Essential Job Functions
- Safely transport individuals to appointments, activities, errands, and community outings using company vehicles.
- Ensure client safety at all times during vehicle transport.
- Maintain appropriate transportation documentation and follow agency vehicle policies.
- Conduct basic vehicle safety checks prior to transport.
- Support clients with daily living activities, including personal care, communication, meal preparation, housekeeping, and community involvement.
- Advocate for the rights of the people we support.
- Assist with implementation of Individual Support Plans (ISPs) and Behavioral Support Plans (BSPs).
- Administer medication as required.
- Complete documentation in Therap and maintain accurate records.
- Report suspected neglect or abuse per Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR).
- Attend required meetings and trainings.
- Support onboarding and training of new staff as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of experience as a DSP or CNA (preferred, not required)
- Experience using Therap (preferred, not required)
Minimum Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license in good standing.
- Ability to become an approved driver under the agency’s insurance policy (includes DMV record review).
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Must pass Oregon criminal background screening.
- Must be able to remain awake and alert while on shift.
- Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs., bend and/or squat.
- Must be able to walk up and down stairs.
- Must be able to drive for extended periods as part of job duties.
- Must be flexible to work at different locations depending on program needs.
- Must be able to perform job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Coaching teaches people how to improve their performance. Training teaches people what to do. Culture teaches people how to treat each other.
