About This Position

Description:

The Controller is a Senior finance leader responsible for the integrity, accuracy, and scalability of Lima One’s accounting, financial reporting, SEC reporting support, and internal control environment. This role owns the general ledger, financial close, accounting policy framework, and all aspects of Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) compliance. The Controller serves as the primary owner of Lima One’s global SOX compliance program and partners closely with MFA Financial to support quarterly and annual SEC reporting requirements. This role operates at a public-company standard while enabling growth, operational efficiency, and strong governance. This position oversees a diverse accounting organization of 10+ professionals across on-site, remote, and offshore locations and plays a critical leadership role in building a high-performing, scalable controllership function.

Job Responsibilities:

Financial Close & Reporting

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes with a focus on speed, accuracy, and predictability.
  • Ensure timely, accurate U.S. GAAP financial statements supported by strong analytical review and documentation.
  • Maintain full ownership of the general ledger, account structure, reconciliations, and journal entry governance.
  • Support MFA Financial with SEC reporting deliverables, including Forms 10-Q, 10-K, and related disclosures.

Controls, SOX & Audit

  • Own and manage Lima One’s global Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance program.
  • Maintain and continuously improve accounting policies, technical accounting memoranda, and process documentation.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors and lead annual financial statement audits.
  • Ensure a strong internal control environment with zero material weaknesses.

Systems Ownership & Process Improvement

  • Own and optimize the Campfire general ledger and FloQast close management platform.
  • Ensure effective integrations and data integrity across Elphi, TMO Pro, Campfire, Snowflake, and Ramp.
  • Partner with IT, Data, and Operations to drive automation and control maturity.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Partner closely with FP&A, Treasury, Capital Markets, Compliance, IT, and Operations.
  • Provide technical accounting guidance and financial insights.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and develop a high-performing accounting team with clear accountability.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.

Success Profile

  • A successful Corporate Controller will deliver a fast, accurate close, maintain a strong SOX posture, and scale the accounting function to support growth, while driving a continuous improvement accounting operation.
Requirements:

Equivalent Education Level Required

  • Bachelors degree with a major in Accounting, Finance or Economics.

Experience and Knowledge Required

  • Active CPA license
  • Minimum 5 years public accounting experience
  • Minimum 10 years total accounting experience
  • Public company SEC reporting experience
  • Hands-on SOX ownership
  • Deep U.S. GAAP knowledge

Experience Preferred

  • Financial services or mortgage lending experience
  • ERP and finance systems optimization experience
  • Campfire, FloQast, Snowflake, Ramp experience
