About This Position
Position Summary:
The Sports Programming Associate supports the planning, coordination, and instruction of sports programs for youth, teens, and adults. This role helps deliver high-quality, engaging programming that promotes skill development, healthy living, and community connection.
While this position will be heavily involved in summer programming, there is opportunity for continued employment based on performance and program needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in planning and implementing sports programs, leagues, clinics, and events for all age groups
- Lead and instruct age-appropriate drills, activities, and gameplay for youth, teen, and adult participants
- Provide a safe, inclusive, and positive environment aligned with YMCA values
- Set up, organize, and clean up equipment and program spaces
- Build relationships with participants and members to enhance their YMCA experience
- Enforce program rules and YMCA policies while maintaining a fun and engaging atmosphere
- Support program registration, attendance tracking, and basic administrative tasks as needed
- Communicate effectively with participants, families, and staff
Qualifications
- Must be at least 16 years old (18+ preferred depending on responsibilities)
- Interest in sports, recreation, or community programming
- Ability to work with a wide range of ages and skill levels
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Dependable, team-oriented, and adaptable
- Prior experience in coaching, officiating, or group instruction preferred but not required
Schedule:
- Flexible hours based on program needs, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends
- Increased hours expected during summer months
- Opportunity for ongoing employment beyond summer
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to be active for extended periods (standing, running, demonstrating drills)
- Ability to lift and carry equipment (up to ~30 lbs)
- Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments
