POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Sports and Recreation, Climbing Wall staff members will

maintain a safe, professional, respectful, and positive atmosphere for our members, by

enforcing and ensuring the policies and procedures of the climbing wall. Climbing Wall staff

must supervise all climbing activities, safety techniques, and belaying instructions, and ensure

the climbing equipment is maintained and inspected.

Essential Functions:

1. Maintains active surveillance of the climbing area

2. Lead group climbing activities

3. Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for

the climbing wall and climbing area

4. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed

5. All other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High school diploma or GED

2. Ability to work well with a diverse group of children, parents, co-workers, and adults.

3. General knowledge of the Edwardsville YMCA and offered activities

4. CPR/First Aid certification or obtain within 30 days of hire.

5. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of the community, social, and economic

segments of the community.

6. Excellent judgment and decision-making skills

7. Must be able to work evenings and weekends

Work will be performed indoors and outdoors and may require occasional travel

Must have visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability

to respond swiftly in an emergency situation.

Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform position functions and supervise

program activities.

Must be able to coordinate a variety of large and small tasks simultaneously

Must be able to handle stress and tension in a positive manner
