The Town of Clayton is seeking applicants for a Communication and Outreach Intern for the Communication and Outreach Department. The Town of Clayton employs more than 340 full-time staff in areas including police, fire, and electric utilities. The purpose of the Communication & Outreach Internship is to provide hands-on experience in municipal communications with a focus on videography, photography, and visual storytelling. The intern will assist the Town of Clayton’s Communication and Outreach Department in producing video content that supports public information, transparency, and community engagement initiatives.

•Assist with planning, filming, editing, and producing video content for Town communication platforms
•Capture video footage and photos of Town services, events, staff, and community programs
•Support the production of short-form videos for social media, the Town website, and internal communications
•Assist with developing standardized video formats, templates, and branding elements
•Provide support for livestreaming public meetings, including operating cameras and live video switching equipment
•Work collaboratively with Communication & Outreach staff and other Town departments to gather content and story ideas
•Assist with organizing and managing video files and digital media assets

Learning Outcomes:

•Develop foundational and advanced videography skills, including camera operation, framing, lighting, and audio capture
•Learn video editing techniques using industry-standard software
•Understand how video supports public information, transparency, and community engagement
•Gain experience working within a professional local government communications team
•Strengthen time management, project planning, and collaboration skills
•Create a portfolio of professional video content produced for real-world municipal communication efforts

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES:

Candidates should possess creativity and an interest in storytelling through video and digital media. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail, the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, and the ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines. Basic knowledge of videography, video editing, and digital media production is preferred. Familiarity with cameras, microphones, lighting equipment, and editing software is beneficial.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

College student pursuing coursework in Communications, Media Production, Film, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field. Experience with photography, video production, social media content creation, or school media programs is preferred.

NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

•Must be available to attend occasional evening public meetings or community events
•Schedule will be coordinated with the Communication and Outreach Department based on academic requirements and project needs

When a salary range is posted, the actual salary will be based on relevant competencies, knowledge, skills & abilities, internal equity and budgetary considerations pertinent to the advertised position.
