About This Position
Function
Responsible for leading and delivering comprehensive HR services for the plant, with oversight and support for a smaller sister plant. Partners with plant leadership and Corporate Human Resources to drive employee relations, labor compliance, talent strategies, and organizational effectiveness. Ensures compliance with employment laws, labor agreements, and corporate policies while fostering a consistent, high-performing, and employee-focused work environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Safety – Support plant safety objectives through active participation in Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) initiatives. Partner with leadership to reinforce a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all safety policies and regulatory requirements.
- Talent Recruiting – Lead talent acquisition, onboarding, workforce planning, and offboarding to meet business and staffing requirements. Maintain appropriate hourly staffing levels through job bidding, recalls, external recruiting, layoffs, and rollbacks in accordance with collective bargaining agreements and company policies.
- Coaching/Mentoring – Advise and coach supervisors and managers on employee relations matters, HR policies, leadership effectiveness, and performance management practices to drive consistency and accountability.
- Employee Engagement – Develop and implement strategies to improve workforce engagement, accountability, productivity, and quality. Conduct stay interviews, analyze feedback, and partner with leadership to address trends.
- Labor Relations – Ensure compliance with the Labor Agreement, including grievance handling and consistent application of plant policies and work rules. Investigate grievances, participate in arbitrations, support labor contract negotiations, and lead contingency planning efforts.
- Employee Relations & Investigations – Lead and conduct thorough, objective workplace investigations related to employee complaints, misconduct, policy violations, harassment, and other concerns. Ensure proper documentation, maintain confidentiality, and recommend appropriate corrective actions in alignment with company policies and legal requirements.
- Compliance & Risk Management – Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, as well as internal policies. Monitor and mitigate organizational risk by maintaining proper documentation, auditing HR practices, and partnering with Corporate HR when necessary.
- Corrective Action & Conflict Resolution – Recommend and administer employee recognition and corrective action programs. Facilitate conflict resolution, mediate workplace disputes, and ensure fair and consistent application of disciplinary processes.
- Talent Development – Partner with the Talent Team to execute and support development initiatives at the plant, including training programs, on-the-job training systems, succession planning, and career development.
- Employee Recordkeeping & Payroll Processing – Oversee accurate and timely hourly payroll processing and reconciliation of time and attendance systems. Ensure compliance with wage and hour regulations.
- Facility Security System – Manage secure administration of the facility access control system, including badges and camera systems, ensuring proper access and compliance with security protocols.
- Vendor Services – Oversee vendor services such as cleaning, vending, uniforms, and floor mat services, ensuring service quality and cost effectiveness.
- Change Management & Organizational Support – Partner with leadership to support organizational changes, workforce transitions, and cultural initiatives, ensuring effective communication and adoption across the plant.
- Other Duties – Perform other duties as assigned or identified to support business needs and HR priorities.
Position Specifications (Required unless otherwise stated)
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field; Master’s degree and/or PHR certification preferred.
- At least seven years of progressive human resources experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Direct labor relations experience.
- Strong knowledge of employment and labor laws.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, workers’ compensation, and safety programs; environmental compliance experience preferred.
- Experience in training and team development, payroll administration, benefits and compensation, and recruiting.
- Strong communication and organizational skills as this is a hands-on manager role.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with ADP and Workforce Manager HR/payroll system preferred.
- Use of AI to automate manual processes.
