About This Position

Description:

Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for helping maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and improve tempering equipment and supporting systems throughout the facility. This role works closely with production and plant leadership to ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently, preventive maintenance is completed on schedule, and unplanned interruptions to the tempering process are minimized. The technician must follow all safety requirements, standard operating procedures, and company policies while supporting continuous improvement in equipment reliability and plant performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspect tempering equipment, production machinery, and supporting systems to identify wear, damage, malfunctions, or performance issues.
  • Troubleshoot equipment problems and communicate findings to the Maintenance Manager and plant leadership.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on tempering furnaces, conveyors, blowers, quench systems, cutting equipment, handling systems, and other plant machinery as assigned.
  • Repair equipment failures quickly and effectively to reduce production downtime.
  • Assist with diagnosing mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical issues.
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of equipment functions, components, operating requirements, and replacement parts.
  • Support equipment changeovers, adjustments, alignment, calibration, and setup as needed.
  • Coordinate with the Maintenance Manager to maintain appropriate inventory levels of spare parts, maintenance supplies, tools, and repair materials.
  • Document inspections, repairs, preventive maintenance activities, and parts usage accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Follow all standard operating procedures, lockout/tagout procedures, and plant safety rules while performing maintenance activities.
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions, equipment hazards, or recurring maintenance concerns to supervision immediately.
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment in designated areas and ensure safe work practices are followed at all times.
  • Keep maintenance work areas clean, organized, and free of debris or hazards.
  • Assist with facility maintenance projects and additional duties as assigned by supervisor or plant leadership.
  • Work collaboratively with operators, supervisors, and other team members to support production goals and continuous improvement efforts.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required

  • High school diploma or GED preferred. Technical training or trade school coursework in industrial maintenance, mechanical systems, or a related field is a plus.
  • Minimum of 3 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing industrial equipment in a fast-paced production setting.
  • Mechanical aptitude with working knowledge of tools, equipment, and maintenance practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, work instructions, and maintenance procedures.
  • Basic understanding of electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to organize work, manage multiple priorities, and adjust quickly to changing production and maintenance needs.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, maintenance personnel, and production staff.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, overtime, weekends, or respond to urgent maintenance needs when required.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to perform physically demanding work in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, push, pull, and twist throughout the shift.
  • Ability to work in awkward positions and remain on feet for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely and effectively.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed primarily in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Regular exposure to heat, noise, moving mechanical parts, glass materials, sharp edges, dust, and vibration.
  • Exposure to seasonal temperature changes and varying indoor plant conditions.
  • Requires close attention to safety due to the presence of sharp glass, powered equipment, and rapidly moving machinery.
