New Communities, Inc. (NCI), a Maine nonprofit health services organization, is seeking a dynamic and experienced finance executive to serve as the Director of Finance, reporting to the CFO. The ideal candidate is a strategic partner and excellent communicator with strong operations, negotiating and facilitation skills who can effectively envision, develop, and implement new strategies to address complex issues that affect NCI.

The Director of Finance is responsible for coordinating activities related to accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, debt management, cash management, regulatory compliance and external auditing to ensure the maximization and protection of NCI’s assets. This position offers a clear path for growth, with the potential to assume the Head of Finance role over time as part of the organization’s leadership succession planning.

Responsibilities include:

  • Influence organizational strategies by contributing financial and accounting information, analysis, and recommendations for strategic thinking and direction; establishing functional objectives in line with organizational objectives.
  • Support financial strategies by forecasting capital, facilities, and staff requirements; identifying financial resources; developing action plans.
  • Key contributor to the annual external financial audit.
  • Monitor financial performance by measuring and analyzing results, initiating corrective actions, and minimizing the impact of variances.
  • Re-engineer processes to ensure that operations are efficient and support business objectives while ensuring best-practice controls are maintained.
  • Optimize the use of recently implemented Blackbaud accounting system.
  • Coordinate completion of required regulatory reports including 990 filing, MaineCare cost reports and grant applications and reports.
  • Support daily financial operations including A/R, A/P, and other general accounting related matters.
  • Report financial information to CFO and other stakeholders by collaborating with business partners to develop forecasts, analyze variances, and develop improvement plans.
  • Contribute to the planning, organizing, and directing of fiscal and management control functions to ensure the maximization and protection of assets.
Requirements:
  • 10+ years of progressive senior management / executive finance experience is required.
  • Director-level experience in a health care setting with MaineCare reimbursement experience (cost reports, rate setting) is highly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field is required.
  • Experience leading forecasting and corporate accounting functions, developing financial reporting and analytical processes and systems, and leading process improvement initiatives.
  • Must be a team player who is flexible, creative, self-motivated, and collaborative with the ability to build consensus and work well with all personality types.
