About This Position
JOB SUMMARY
The Behavioral Health Therapist is responsible for the assessment, treatment, support, and follow-up of patients with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. This individual functions as a key member of the interdisciplinary care team, ensuring coordinated, patient-centered care that aligns with evidence-based practices. The Behavioral Health Therapist supports the organization’s commitment to integrated behavioral health by delivering high-quality therapeutic interventions, maintaining compliance with regulatory standards, and promoting recovery-oriented outcomes.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Performs and documents comprehensive assessments and client-centered therapeutic services that address the intellectual, psychosocial, physical, and spiritual needs of patients and their families.
- Provides substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health treatment using a variety of evidence-based modalities through both group and individual therapy sessions to meet the diverse needs of the patient population.
- Maintains clinical documentation and records in accordance with organizational policies, as well as applicable state and federal regulations and standards.
- Collaborates with patients, families, internal care teams, referral sources, and community partners to develop and implement individualized treatment plans that promote recovery and well-being.
- Submits accurate and timely billing and documentation to support revenue cycle functions and meet financial targets for the service line.
- Educates patients, families, colleagues, and the broader community on substance use, co-occurring disorders, and available treatment options to improve community health outcomes.
- Participates in ongoing training and education of colleagues and team members to support high-quality patient care and maintain professional standards.
- Maintains strict adherence to scheduled work hours with regular and reliable attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Master’s degree required in a field eligible for licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
- Preferred credentials include Substance Abuse Counselor in Training (SAC-IT), Substance Abuse Counselor (SAC), or Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC), in addition to mental health licensure.
- Minimum of two years of clinical experience in behavioral health providing both group and individual therapy, with a strong preference for experience treating co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES
- Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), OR Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who provide substance abuse counseling within the scope of their licensure.
- Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License required with an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR), per FHC guidelines.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification at time of hire, or within three-months of employment.
