About This Position

Description:

Hushabye Nursery is an Arizona nonprofit organization with a mission to ‘embrace substance exposed babies and their caregivers with compassionate, evidence-based care that changes the course of their entire lives.’ The organization was founded by Tara Sundem, a neonatal nurse practitioner who witnessed firsthand the challenges of newborns exposed prenatally to opioids and those families trying to care for them. Hushabye Nursery’s innovative model offers a safe and inclusive space where mothers, family members and babies – from conception through childhood – can receive integrative care and therapeutic support that offers each child the best possible life outcomes. Programs will include prenatal and postpartum support groups, inpatient nursery services, and outpatient therapies.

POSITION OVERVIEW: The AmeriCorps Site Supervisor provides direct supervision, support, and performance oversight to AmeriCorps members serving at your organization. This role ensures members are engaged in meaningful service activities that align with their position descriptions, comply with AmeriCorps regulations, and advance the nonprofit’s mission. The supervisor also acts as a mentor, coach, and primary site contact from members’ first day through completion of service. This role reports to the Director of Development.

Member Supervision & Support

  • Provide orientation, ongoing supervision, and guidance to AmeriCorps members.
  • Ensure shifts are opened in a timely manner and assist with scheduling as needed.
  • Review and approve members’ timesheets monthly, ensuring accuracy and compliance with AmeriCorps standards.
  • Conduct regular check-ins, goal setting, and performance feedback.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for questions regarding service activities, expectations, and policies.

Program Compliance

  • Ensure service activities align with the approved Position Description and the nonprofit’s goals.
  • Monitor that prohibited activities (as defined by AmeriCorps) are not performed by members or mobilized volunteers.
  • Facilitate completion of required assessments at the beginning and end of members’ service terms.
  • Complete or assist with background checks, site onboarding, and mandatory trainings.
  • Proactively audit to ensure program is compliant with AmeriCorps standards and survey ready at all times.

Recruitment & Engagement (optional, depending on scope)

  • Recruit and select prospective AmeriCorps members.
  • Support member involvement in volunteer mobilization projects, community events, and outreach efforts.

Professional Development

  • Provide coaching and mentoring to help members grow leadership and service skills.
  • Coordinate member participation in training and monthly meetings.
  • Completes individual required training per organizational and program standards.

Reporting & Communication

  • Communicate regularly with staff about member progress, challenges, and achievements.
  • Ensure timely reporting and documentation as required by state and federal standards.
Requirements:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

Required

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in supervision, mentoring, or team leadership.
  • Ability to ensure accuracy in reporting and administrative duties.
  • Commitment to AmeriCorps mission and nonprofit values.

Preferred

  • Experience working with volunteers or service-learning programs.
  • Knowledge of AmeriCorps regulations and reporting requirements.

EDUCATION (MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS) and Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, education, social services, or related field, preferred
  • Experience working with volunteers or service-learning programs.
  • Knowledge of AmeriCorps regulations and reporting requirements, preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Workplace Environment: Work generally performed in professional offices and clinical settings. Personnel may be exposed to typical environmental conditions of a healthcare/behavioral health facility, including moderate noise, frequent interaction with clients, and possible exposure to medical hazards.
