Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located at the west end of the historic Globe-Miami mining district of central Arizona, approximately 80 miles east of Phoenix. Pinto Valley has been in operation since 1972 and has produced more than four billion pounds of copper. Acquired by Capstone from BHP in 2013, the mine is fully permitted through 2039 and a study is underway to potentially extend the mine life through 2050.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Maintenance Specialist, you will be responsible for identifying and optimizing opportunities to improve maintenance and operational practices with a focus on quality and efficiency at the Pinto Valley Mine site. This maintenance professional also plays a key role in leading the standardization of lubrication practices and monitoring short term downtimes by using technical knowledge and innovative approaches. This position works closely with the maintenance, operations, supply chain and assets & engineering teams at Pinto Valley as well as with suppliers, contractors and consultants to optimize practices, reduce waste in maintenance and provide short term support to equipment downtime.

  • Health, Safety & Environment: Work safely, follow MSHA and site policies, and actively contribute to a safe and proactive safety culture.
  • Quality Control of Maintenance Activities: Develop and lead QA/QC programs to verify maintenance work meets performance standards and report deviations.
  • Optimize Maintenance & Operations: Improve maintenance and operational routines using lean methods (TPM, SMED, 5S) to reduce waste and increase efficiency.
  • Standardize Maintenance Processes: Develop, implement, and lead standardized procedures to improve consistency, efficiency, and onboarding.
  • Monitor Equipment Downtime: Review equipment performance, validate downtime data, chair daily performance meetings, and support complex troubleshooting.
  • Evaluate Component Trials: Monitor and analyze new and trialed equipment performance and lead efforts to reduce equipment obsolescence.
  • Provide Lubrication Expertise: Act as the lubrication expert, leading improvements to standardize lubricants and optimize lubrication practices.
  • Take on additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and initiative.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or diploma in related field
  • 3 years in mechanical, electrical, planning, reliability, operations, mining, processing, metallurgy experience in a mining operational facility
  • Experience in mining or processing plant environments with strong knowledge of safety protocols, equipment maintenance strategies, lubrication practices, and key mining equipment.
  • Proficient in reliability concepts (RCM, FMEA), defect elimination (RCA, 5WHY), maintenance KPIs, and performance analysis.
  • Familiar with Lean Maintenance methodologies to reduce waste and improve operational efficiency.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
  • Safety-focused, technically adept, and fluent in spoken and written English.

Preferred

  • Mechanical, electrical, industrial, materials, mining, chemical, metallurgical degree or diploma
  • 5+ years in mechanical, electrical, planning, reliability experience in a mining operational facility
  • Experience with condition monitoring techniques such as vibration analysis, oil analysis, ultrasound, airborne monitoring, thermography, and health monitoring
  • Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) by The Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP)

All candidates will be required to complete a pre-employment medical exam, drug and alcohol test, and background check. All positions require a pre-placement physical examination to ensure candidates are 'fit for duty’. Additional training and/or testing may be required. Capstone maintains a drug and alcohol-free workplace.
