About This Position
We are currently accepting applications for 2 Bridge Worker vacancies. One vacancy is located in Pike Lake (near Duluth, MN) and the other is in Virginia, Minnesota. Bridge Workers perform routine semi-skilled operation of a variety of heavy construction equipment and tools, and general laborer work in the construction and maintenance of County bridges.
The salary range reflected above is the normal hiring range for 2025. The full salary range, including longevity pay, is $23.95 - $33.59 per hour. 2026 rates are currently pending.
An employee in this class operates a variety of heavy construction equipment and intermittently performs strenuous physical labor in the excavation, structural fabrication and assembly of preformed culverts and timber, steel and concrete span bridges in the County road system. Duties include operating a variety of equipment in the construction, repair and maintenance of existing County bridges. The work is performed under the direction of a Bridge Supervisor.
These work environment factors are general in nature and may vary depending on the specific position being filled. CONSTANT: Push/pull up to 10 pounds; balance; coordination; crouch/squat*; grasp/handle; sit*; stand*; stoop/bend; walk*; hearing; vision; and work outside. FREQUENT: Push/pull up to 100 pounds; climb ladders; elevated work; reach; reach above shoulder; rotate trunk; and drive. OCCASIONAL: Lift and carry up to 100 pounds; push/pull over 100 pounds (2-person); climb stairs; crawl; and kneel.

- High school diploma or its equivalent.
- One (1) year full-time paid verifiable experience as a general laborer in heavy building or road/bridge construction.
- Possession of a Class 'B' Commercial Driver's License without an airbrake restriction with the ability to obtain a Class 'A' Commercial Driver's License with a tank vehicle endorsement and without any of the following restrictions within six (6) months of employment: air brake, full air brake, manual transmission or tractor trailer. Failure to obtain the appropriate Class 'A' License prior to completion of probation will result in termination from the position.
