As a member of the Medical Writing team, the Grant writer will work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and team members, identify, submit and follow up on funding opportunities for research conducted or facilitated by the medical R&D group.
Identify Funding Opportunities - Systematically research, map, identify and explore eligibility requirements for relevant funding opportunities within the therapeutic areas of interest and which align with Alimentiv’s strategic mission and capabilities
- Work with the Chief Medical Officer, VP Medical R&D, and other members of senior leadership to identify the most appropriate funding opportunities to pursue
- Prepare and deliver presentations to senior leadership regarding funding opportunities
- Represent Alimentiv at funding agency information sessions and meetings as required
- Draft polished and professional grant proposals tailored to the requirements of each funding opportunity
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners to ensure the timely completion of all components of grant application packages, including budgets
- Manage document review rounds with stakeholders and prepare revised drafts of the proposal based on feedback received
- Manage timelines and the grant submission process
- Monitor submitted proposals and respond to funding agency queries as required
- Ensure the accuracy and consistency of proposal content
- Contribute to our culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion by factoring these elements into our research proposals where feasible
- Identify Alimentiv work that is eligible for Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) tax incentives and work with Finance and other teams to prepare an annual claim
- Support the Medical R&D team in relationship management with funding agencies and act as a point of contact as assigned
- Ensure commonly requested supporting documentation for grants is maintained (e.g., CVs)
- Develop a calendar of application and reporting deadlines for all grantsWork collaboratively with the project operations team, the grant owners and Alimentiv’s legal team to support the execution of contractual agreements with funding agencies
- Submit grant proposals and status reports, ensuring multiple overlapping deadlines are met
- Collaborate with the operational team to track budgets and verify the eligibility of expenses
- Draft status reports for funders in accordance with grant requirements
- Other tasks as required
- Support the medical writing team with the development of documents including but not limited to abstracts, posters, and slide decks, and with the editing or quality control (QC) review of regulatory documents or publications as time permits
- Minimum of an undergraduate degree (advanced degrees preferred) and 4-6 years of relevant experience.
- Proven experience writing grant proposals, preferably in the clinical research space
- Existing knowledge of GI indications is an asset
- A self-starter who can be proactive and translate opportunities into funding
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team environment and build rapport with funders
- Exemplary written communication skills and ability to develop clear, well-structured, and persuasive proposals
- Superior time management skills and ability to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines from multiple stakeholders
- Knowledge of budgeting and financial reporting related to grants
- Strong research skills and familiarity with research resources including databases and other online sources of granting information
