About This Position
Summary: The Logistics Supervisor is responsible for leading and optimizing all daily logistics operations, including transportation, shipping, material handling, and freight cost management. This role oversees a team of 4–6 direct reports, including CDL drivers, shipping coordinators, and material handlers, ensuring seamless coordination of inbound and outbound flows to support production and customer delivery commitments. This position plays a critical role in driving operational efficiency, cost discipline, and service performance across MCG operations. The Logistics Supervisor is accountable not only for execution, but also for actively managing freight spend, carrier performance, and logistics strategies to reduce total delivered cost. Accountabilities: Operational Leadership • Lead daily logistics operations, including inbound and outbound shipments, internal material flow, and transportation scheduling • Supervise, coach, and develop a team of CDL drivers, shipping coordinators, and material handlers • Ensure alignment and coordination across production, materials, procurement, and customer service teams • Drive adherence to shipping schedules to meet customer and production deadlines Transportation & Freight Management • Own transportation planning, routing, load consolidation, and network optimization to maximize efficiency • Manage relationships with carriers, brokers, and third-party logistics providers • Negotiate and administer freight contracts, including rate agreements, service levels, and performance expectations • Continuously evaluate carrier base to ensure competitive pricing and reliable service Cost Control & Optimization • Actively manage and reduce total logistics spend, including inbound and outbound freight • Monitor and control expedite costs, ensuring proper approval processes and root cause mitigation • Analyze and reduce assessorial charges (detention, demurrage, accessorials, reclassification, etc.) • Identify and execute cost reduction initiatives through mode optimization, load planning, and carrier selection • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on lowering cost per shipment, cost per pound, and cost per mile Compliance & Risk Management • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, safety standards, and company policies • Maintain proper documentation for shipments, audits, and regulatory requirements • Proactively manage transportation risks, including capacity constraints and service disruptions Performance Management & Continuous Improvement • Track, analyze, and improve key logistics KPIs, including on-time delivery, freight cost, and carrier performance • Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for service failures, damages, and delays • Implement process improvements to increase efficiency, visibility, and scalability of logistics operations • Utilize ERP, WMS, and TMS systems to drive data-driven decision making and reporting Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience) • 3–5+ years of experience in logistics, transportation, or supply chain operations • Proven supervisory or team leadership experience • Strong experience in freight management, carrier negotiations, and cost control initiatives • Working knowledge of DOT regulations and transportation compliance • Demonstrated ability to manage freight spend, analyze cost drivers, and execute cost reduction strategies • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills • Effective communication skills with both internal stakeholders and external partners • Ability to operate in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with shifting priorities • Proficiency in ERP, WMS, and Microsoft Office; TMS experience preferred Physical & Environmental Requirements
